About us
CIHCA is concerned about the decades of air and water pollution created by the Edwards coal plant south of Bartonville and other area coal plants. CIHCA is working to transition Central Illinois to a cleaner energy economy.
Our goals:
1. Ensure that there is a clear phase-out plan for the Edwards coal plant and the funds in the Edwards settlement are bringing about real change in the community — job training, increased solar and energy efficiency, and lung health services.
2. Bring about a transition from the use of health-harming fossil fuels to clean, safe, renewable energy in Central Illinois. Ensure that all parts of the community have opportunities for participation.
3. Ensure a clean energy economy open to all. This needs to include a just transition for local workers as well as those who have historically as been shut out of the good paying jobs in the energy sector.
4. Protect the local land and water by securing a clean-up of the coal plant sites, including coal ash ponds.
